Thank you for continuing to be a part of the KEA tradition! As your new KEA President, I'm looking forward to working with you to ensure that our association is best representing our members. Joining me on the Executive Committee are Marci Schiel-Adeoye as Vice-President, Holly Walsh as Secretary, and Cynthia Lyman as Treasurer. We are all committed to honoring KEA's strong history while moving forward and adapting to current needs.
As we start a new school year, I cannot help but revisit our mission statement: KEA/TSTA/NEA will unite, organize and empower public education advocates to shape public education in Texas thus providing a quality public school for every child. We are the public education advocates. Whether we are campaigning for smaller class sizes, fighting for better health care for employees, or defending TRS benefits, our ultimate goal is to make Klein ISD the best possible place to live, work, and learn.
This year, KEA's goals will focus on three areas: communication, participation, and community relations.
For the past two years, KEA Association Representatives (ARs) have been updating our member list with home e-mail addresses as we begin to move away from using the Klein ISD email system. To improve our communication with members, we are implementing a message board to share general ideas, updating our webpage with more frequently with relevant topics, and establishing a text message announcement system.
We have many opportunities for people to find a place in KEA. Whether it's contributing articles to the web page, keeping the association informed of the issues that our members our facing, or even just "liking" our statuses on Facebook, there is a role for everyone.
If you have a concern or question, don't hesitate to talk to your campus Association Representative (AR). You can also come to any KEA meetings, trainings, or socials to find someone who can help support you and give you direction.
Please be on the lookout for a survey in the next week or so about what training or support you'd like to see offered this year so we can best serve your needs. This will be sent to all home e-mail addresses, posted on the web page, and posted on our Facebook page. If we don't have your home e-mail address (or if we have an outdated e-mail address for you), please contact Mary Ann Quintana, our membership chair, so she can update our membership roster.
Cheers,
Vanessa Riley
