News from Klein Education Association
Wow! I think I can speak for us all when I say that I'm exhausted! Klein had a great first day of school, and it's thanks to all of you! We have friendly bus drivers who are the first to greet our students and drive them safely to schools. We have IT people who make sure that our technology is working properly. Our police officers keep us (and our property) safe, while our secretaries, aides, and clerks s help keep our schools organized and running. Our teachers inspire the students to ask questions, and our librarians know the skills that they need to find the answers . Our custodians keep us clean, maintenance keeps us looking good and food services keeps us well fed.
We are Klein ISD, and I know Dr. Cain is proud of the job that each one of us does.
Quarterly Meeting with Dr. Cain
KEA has a quarterly meeting with Dr. Cain to discuss questions, concerns, and ideas that we would like to present to the district. If you have any suggestions for us to discuss, please either use the following survey or talk to your building Association Representative (AR). You can also come to any KEA event, whether it's a meeting, a training, or a social, and someone will be more than happy to talk to you. If we are speaking for you, let your voice be heard!
Thank you in advance for taking a moment to answer the survey. KEA is trying to collect data to address your concerns on your campus and throughout the district. Your answers will help us identify problems and find solutions currently affecting your productivity and morale. Please feel free to leave any comments.

First Friday "Choir Practice"
One thing that we are adding to our social calendar this year is an informal happy hour or "choir practice" on the first Friday of every month. The idea is that the location will rotate around the district and will just be a place to hang out, meet, and socialize. Come on out whenever you need advice or just want to see a friendly face! Our first First Friday Choir Practice will be September 7th at the Bareback Bar and Icehouse at 19940 Kuykendahl Rd Spring, TX 77379. KEA will be there from around 4:00-7:00 with appetizers, so we hope to see you (and a friend) there!
Welcome Back Social
If you're looking for something a bit more substantial than appetizers, our Back to School social is September 28th from 4:00-7:00 at WineStyles - 10300 Louetta Road (at Cutten). This place is absolutely beautiful - it has lots of room, cold AC, and a private room. Come join us for food, fun, and fellowship - you might even win a door prize! Check your e-mail for more specific details.
Training Opportunities
As a TSTA and NEA affiliate, we have access to wonderful learning opportunities. There are so many that there is no way that we could offer them all in a calendar year, so we are asking that you rate your interest in the session through this link. Some are geared for teachers, some are geared for ESPs (education support staff), and some are general interest. in order to best serve your needs and interests, please click this link to take a short survey about what we can offer this year. Thanks!
Association Representatives
One thing that distinguishes us from the other associations is the fact that we have Association Representatives (ARs) in our building who are the first line of contact in case a question or issues arises. If you are interested in becoming an Association Representative, or have ever wanted to know what an AR does, then please come to our first AR training date on Monday, September 24th. If you have any questions, please contact Marci Adeoye, our VP.
KEA Committees
Klein Education Association is a very active local, and we have lots of committees that members can join. No matter what your interest, we have a committee for you! We are always looking for volunteers, and here are a few positions that are currently open:
Social Committee - Come help plan the parties!
PAC (Political Advocacy) - Meet the school board and interview potential candidates.
Communication - Help us update one of the following:
Facebook
Twitter
Webpage
Membership - Help us welcome new members and maintain our database.
For more information on what committees we have and what they are doing, check out our message board. Even if you can't commit to a meeting, you can still always share your thoughts and suggestions.
As a high school core content teacher, I understand just how difficult it can be to set aside time in your life to make room for KEA. I promise you, I wouldn't be asking you if it weren't important. But it is. There is a proverb that says "When spiders unite, they can tie up the lion." By ourselves, our webs don't mean much. We just end up being seen as the complainer, or even worse, we just keep silent and refuse to participate. But KEA has strength in numbers, and if we have a unified voice, people will listen. People can't listen unless you speak, so let your voice be heard!
As a proud NEA member, I wish you all a very happy and restful Labor Day weekend!
Cheers,
Vanessa Riley
